How Family-Based Child Care Works
The Family-Based Child Care program is currently being developed in the Putao Region of Kachin State, Myanmar. A child who needs financial assistance to go to school is referred to the program by their village pastor or local Jesus Foot Soldier. Often parents seek out help to send their children to school. A trained coordinator visits the home, assesses the needs of the family, and establishes a relationship with the children and parents. The coordinator keeps a written record of the children's needs and progress. A brief bio and pictures are sent to Asia Frontier Outreach-USA, who seek sponsors for the children.
Cash is not given to the family. School fees are paid directly to the local school; back packs and school supplies are purchased and given to the child. If there are nutritional needs, the family is given rice, vegetables, and a protein source, as needed. As we get updates and new pictures of the children, we quickly pass those on to the child's sponsor.
