How Family Based Child Care Works:
Our Family-Based Child Care program is developing in the Putao Region of Kachin State, Myanmar. A child who needs financial assistance for school is referred to this program by their village pastor or local Jesus Foot Soldier. When parents seek help to send their children to school, a trained coordinator visits the home, assesses the family's need, and establishes a relationship with the children and parents. The coordinator keeps a written record of the children's needs and education progress. A brief bio and picture are sent to Asia Frontier Outreach-USA, who proceed to seek a sponsor for the child. It currently costs $75 a month for a child's school fees, any medical needs, and nutrition assistance.
Cash is not given to the family. Instead, school fees are paid directly to the school; back packs and school supplies are purchased and given to the child; and the family is given rice, vegetables, and a protein source. As we get updates and new pictures, we quickly pass them on to the child's sponsor.
